Can you join us tomorrow for a work day at a frien Can you join us tomorrow for a work day at a friends place for some earthworks, permaculture learning, and the coolest transformation of some juniper bushes you’ve ever seen? Sign up through the link in our bio. We’d love to see you there!
This is a 2-part course taking place July 24-29 an This is a 2-part course taking place July 24-29 and August 14-19. Our course location will vary throughout the Front Range, with diverse sites to showcase the many applications of permaculture on different scales.

Permaculture is rooted in Indigenous practices, and it is important to acknowledge and credit these communities for their knowledge and expertise. Indigenous communities across the world have practiced sustainable and regenerative land management for thousands of years, and permaculture draws heavily on this traditional ecological knowledge. By giving credit to these communities and acknowledging their contributions to the development of permaculture, we can work toward creating a more equitable and inclusive permaculture movement.

In this deep dive into regenerative design, grounded in permaculture ethics and principles, you will learn an abundance of Earth care techniques. From managing water, building healthy soil, designing and planting food forests, integrating livestock, to natural building and social permaculture, this course covers many important topics. We will also cover topics like ecological design methodologies, growing food in small spaces, alternative economics, community building and appropriate technologies, and much more.

During this course, you will have the opportunity to complete a group design project and can expect to spend time outside of class working on it. Our aim is to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of permaculture and its applications across different settings, from urban to rural areas, and a range of climes.

The cost for this course will be $1600 until June 1st, which will increase to $1750 with a deadline of July 15th.

This course is being hosted by the Northern Colorado Permaculture Guild with the support of Boulder Permaculture.

The Guild had a lovely time with fellow permacultu The Guild had a lovely time with fellow permaculture enthusiasts at Elk Run in Longmont this Saturday, learning from the incredible Amy Scanes-Wolfe while touring the amazing land. Folks from the guild got a nice shot together in the yurt where Amy kicked off the event asking about the definition of permaculture, sparking great discussion while taking shelter from the snow for a bit. Then we set out on a hike to see the land from a fantastic vantage point which where we could see the work being done to restore vegetation using grassland silvopasture without additional water needs through contour swale plantings. We continued our hike around the property as it snowed, seeing beauty like the animal barn (last photo) with it's creative use of lumber and natural forms while we connected on many permaculture principles like use and value diversity. Thanks to all the guild members who attended but especially Amy and Boulder Permaculture!

The Sheffield Circle kids are enjoying their new g The Sheffield Circle kids are enjoying their new gathering space under the dwarf apple tree on land lovingly maintained by dedicated filmmaker Shari Due. The kids live in the neighborhood and were already poking around under the tree, but the guild helped crutch heavy branches, lay weed barrier to lower maintenance needs, and set up child-sized tree stumps with their tops sanded smooth to prevent splinters. Not only will the apple tree thrive, but Nanking cherries were relocated while serviceberries, honeyberries, and strawberries were planted to make the space tastier for all ages. Finally, the existing grape vines were trimmed and set into a new trellis for better air flow, visibility, and to create a fun kid-sized arch for little ones to use as they go under the apple tree. All of these additions and edible improvements will receive roof runoff overflow from newly installed rain barrel storage which drains into perforated pipe.

Join us for our season opening action day and dinn Join us for our season opening action day and dinner, presented by the Northern Colorado Permaculture Guild and Mama’s Tofu. Come learn about starting a fresh garden in a brand new development, working towards feeding yourself from the land, and building in water resilience to ensure healthy harvests. The Northern Colorado Permaculture Guild has been a community of helpers working to give our neighbors edible landscapes while achieving their goals for the land. Mama’s Tofu is a Fort Collins based workers cooperative making local food. Their locally made organic non-GMO tofu has been feeding the Fort Collins area since 2013, and two of their most amazing members recently moved to a new development in Severance hoping to start growing and thriving from the land while feeding themselves.

We will start at 10:30, work on establishing the garden with added compost and sheet-mulched paths, break for a light lunch, then continue installing roof runoff collection barrels until dinner is served at 5:30. If time permits there will be work installing additional paths around the site to improve accessibility.

Please bring work gloves, sun protection, and water. Signupgenius link to register is in our bio. Thanks!

What a great day! Many hands make for little work What a great day! Many hands make for little work!

We were able to help Rich get his orchard picked so that all those wonderful apples won't go to waste. Much of what he grows gets donated to the food bank ... Rich donated over 1,700 pounds of vegetables to the food bank last year! Some will go to the local co-op, covering part of his costs. The remaining apples will go to local farms with pigs and goats, such as Jodar and Little Red Hen.

Thank you to everyone who participated today, building and feeding community!
Reap The Rewards! We are about to wrap up action d Reap The Rewards! We are about to wrap up action days at The Little Red Hen and wanted to share some shots of the work we’ve been doing, moving soil to help concentrate water while planting the food forest and enjoying the delicious meals lovingly provided by our host! There’s been a little pasture containment management (both chicken and goat escapees, thanks Tony!) experienced guidance of heavy machinery, and some beautiful super strong fencing re-established to make sure the food forest doesn’t get browsed by the animals to bare stems. Our site host Maura and roommate Tony prepared a wonderful home cooked lunch full of locally sourced goodness like garden greens, goat cheese, and sourdough dough for the dessert pizza. Is your mouth watering yet?
